A candy with a crunch—yes, you read that right! The surprising texture of this handmade Matcha Kinako Candy is made possible through the craftsmanship of traditional artisans. Inspired by the 16th-century Portuguese confection “Arhei-to” (a type of traditional hard candy), this candy is crafted by boiling the syrup at high temperatures and layering it into thin, delicate sheets. From the moment it enters your mouth, the candy offers a delightful crunch and a nostalgic, comforting flavor.
The ingredients are chosen with care. Organically grown domestic soybeans are roasted whole—including their skins—at a kinako workshop in Onomichi, Hiroshima, creating a fragrant roasted soybean flour. To this, organic matcha from Happii Mukoujimaen in Shizuoka is added, perfectly harmonizing the rich aromas of kinako and matcha. Sweetened with sugar from Hokkaido-grown sugar beets and malt syrup, it delivers a gentle sweetness that fills the mouth.
